Naples to Capri Ferry

The Naples to Capri ferry leaves from two piers in central Naples. From Molo Beverello, NLG (Navigazione Libera del Golfo) and SNAV run high speed ferries that reach Marina Grande on Capri in 50 minutes for €26.50–31. From Calata Porta di Massa, 500 metres along the waterfront, Caremar runs a fast ferry in about 1 hour (€25.30) and a slower conventional ferry in about 1 hour 25 minutes, the cheapest ticket at €14–19. In late September 2026 there were about 25 departures a day, the first high speed ferry at 07:00 and the last at 20:00. The one thing a first-timer should know: check which pier your ticket is for. Molo Beverello and Calata Porta di Massa are separate terminals, and walking between them with bags takes time you may not have.

Ferry options compared

Three ferry companies operate the Naples to Capri route, and the choice mostly comes down to pier, price and departure time.

• NLG (Navigazione Libera del Golfo). The most departures from Molo Beverello: eleven a day in late September 2026, from 08:35 to 18:55. High speed ferry, 50 minutes, €29–31. NLG's free luggage allowance is small: one piece up to 50×30×15 cm and 5 kg.
• SNAV. Nine high speed ferry departures from Molo Beverello, including the earliest (07:00) and the latest (20:00). Some are sold as Gescab-SNAV. 50 minutes, €26.50–28.50. SNAV's own site quotes Naples–Capri from €27.50.
• Caremar. The regional public operator, sailing from Calata Porta di Massa. Its fast ferry (mezzo veloce) takes about an hour for €25.30. Its conventional ferry takes 1 hour 25 minutes for €14–19, the cheapest way to Capri from Naples. Caremar allows more luggage: 20 kg on conventional ferries and 10 kg on its fast boats, up to 50×40×20 cm.

Which to pick:

• Fastest ferry: the high speed ferry of NLG or SNAV from Molo Beverello, 50 minutes.
• Cheapest ferry: the Caremar conventional ferry from Porta di Massa. It is slower, but a bigger ship is steadier in a swell.
• Big suitcases: Caremar, because of the higher luggage allowance and the bigger ship.
• Early or late: Caremar's fast ferry runs outside the high speed ferry hours, at 05:35 and, until 30 September, 21:35.

None of the boats has cabins, and none will take a tourist's car to Capri (see Tips).

Timetable and season

The Naples to Capri route runs year round, but the timetable changes often. Ferryhopper counts over 20 daily crossings in the summer months and a reduced service from November to March. Direct Ferries counted 107 sailings a week. The times below are the timetable for the week of 26 September 2026.

From Molo Beverello (high speed ferry)

• SNAV: 07:00, 08:05, 09:10, 10:15, 11:10, 14:00, 16:00, 18:10 and 20:00.
• NLG: 08:35, 09:30, 10:40, 11:35, 11:55, 12:40, 14:40, 15:35, 16:30, 17:40 and 18:55.

From Calata Porta di Massa (Caremar)

• Fast ferry: 05:35, 12:00, 17:25, and 21:35 until 30 September.
• Conventional ferry: 07:55, 12:40 and 19:10, plus a 04:00 weekday sailing until 2 October.

Capri to Naples

The last boats back in late September 2026 were NLG at 18:45, SNAV at 19:12 and NLG at 19:55 to Molo Beverello, and the Caremar fast ferry at 20:17 to Porta di Massa. For a day trip, book a return between 17:00 and 19:00 and keep the later boats as a backup.

In winter, the NLG and SNAV timetables thin out and some summer-only sailings stop. Caremar's fast ferry runs year round. Rough seas cancel high speed ferries first; Caremar's larger ships are more likely to sail.

Getting to the Naples ferry terminals

Both piers are on the waterfront below Piazza Municipio and Castel Nuovo, a short walk from the historic center.

• Molo Beverello is the passenger pier for hydrofoils and high speed ferries to Capri, Ischia, Procida and Sorrento. Each company has a ticket office and a boarding lane.
• Calata Porta di Massa is about 500 metres east, towards the Immacolatella. Caremar ferries and fast ferries to Capri leave from here, as do car ferries to Ischia and Procida.

How to get there:

• Metro: Metro Line 1 to Municipio, then a five-minute walk to Molo Beverello. Allow another 5–10 minutes on foot to Porta di Massa.
• From Naples Capodichino airport: the Alibus stops at Porta di Massa and at Molo Beverello. It runs every 15–25 minutes from about 05:30 to midnight, costs €5 and takes about 30 minutes to the port. A taxi has a fixed fare of €24 from the airport to the port (ask for the tariffa predeterminata before you set off). A shared taxi costs €6 per person.
• From Napoli Centrale: Metro Line 1 from Garibaldi to Municipio, or the Alibus from Piazza Garibaldi.

Arrive 30–45 minutes early in summer. Queues at the ticket office and the boarding lane get long when several Capri ferries leave within minutes of each other.

Arriving in Capri

Every ferry from Naples docks at Marina Grande on Capri's north coast, next to the ticket offices, cafés and the funicular station.

• Funicular: up to Piazza Umberto I (the Piazzetta) in Capri town in about four minutes, €2.40 per ride. Large bags need their own ticket. From May to September the queue can be long, so head there straight off the boat.
• Buses run from Marina Grande to Capri town and to Anacapri, for Villa San Michele and the Monte Solaro chairlift.
• Sea tours: kiosks on the quay sell round-the-island boat tours and trips to the Blue Grotto, weather permitting.
• Taxis: open-top taxis wait outside the port. Agree the fare first.

A day trip from Naples to Capri

A day trip is easy with the 2026 timetable, as long as you book the return. A workable plan from Molo Beverello:

1. Take the 07:00 or 08:05 SNAV, or the 08:35 NLG high speed ferry. You land at Marina Grande before 09:30.
2. Ride the funicular to the Piazzetta, walk to the Gardens of Augustus, then take the bus to Anacapri for Villa San Michele or the Monte Solaro chairlift.
3. Come back down to Marina Grande by 17:30. Round-the-island sea tours from the quay fit in the afternoon if the sea is calm.
4. Take a return ferry between 17:30 and 19:00, keeping the 19:55 NLG or 20:17 Caremar as a fallback if your boat is cancelled.

If your budget is tight, the 07:55 Caremar conventional ferry from Porta di Massa gets you to the island at about 09:20 for €19 or less. The same trip on a high speed ferry costs €26.50–31 each way.

Tickets and prices

You can buy tickets online on the operators' sites (Caremar, SNAV, NLG) or through Ferryhopper and Direct Ferries, which let you compare ferry schedules in one place. You can also buy at the ticket offices at the port. In high season, book online a few days ahead for the popular morning boats out and the evening boats back.

Ticket prices on the Naples to Capri route depend on the company and boat type: €14–19 on the Caremar conventional ferry, €25.30 on the Caremar fast ferry, €26.50–28.50 on SNAV and €29–31 on NLG in September 2026. Every ticket includes Capri's landing fee (contributo di sbarco), which is €5 per person from 1 April to 31 October and €2.50 from November to March.

Other points:

• Children: discounts apply on all operators, with age bands up to about 12 years; infants usually travel free.
• Return tickets: each company sells its own tickets, so a return ties you to that company's boats. Buy one-way tickets if you want the freedom to take any boat back.
• Luggage: extra or oversized bags are charged. Check the maximum dimensions before you pack.

Tips

• Leave the car on the mainland. Capri bans non-resident vehicles from 30 March to 2 November 2026 and from 28 December 2026 to 3 January 2027, including hire cars and foreign-registered cars.
• Go early. The 07:00 SNAV or the 07:55 Caremar ferry lands you before the day-tripper crowds.
• Watch the weather. In strong wind high speed ferries are cancelled at short notice. If the forecast is poor, book Caremar, and don't plan a tight connection to a flight the same evening.
• Look back at the city. On the way out you get the whole Gulf of Naples behind you: the waterfront, Castel Nuovo and Vesuvius.
• Consider Sorrento. If you are also visiting Sorrento or the Amalfi Coast, the Sorrento to Capri ferry is only 20–30 minutes, with more boats.
