Where it leaves from
The ferry departs from Molo Beverello, Naples' central ferry terminal at the waterfront. The terminal is a few minutes' walk from Piazza del Plebiscito and is served by metro, buses and taxis. Check in at least 20 minutes before the scheduled departure — queues can build quickly at peak summer times.
Seasonal service along the Amalfi Coast
The Naples–Positano route is seasonal, operating from approximately April to October. It is one of the most scenic ferry rides on the Italian coast — the boat tracks south-east across the Gulf of Salerno with views of the Sorrentine cliffs before rounding the peninsula to reach Positano. The crossing takes around one hour on the fast ferries operated by Alilauro and Travelmar. Outside the season, the road (via Sorrento and the SS163 Amalfitana) or a train to Sorrento plus local ferry or bus are the realistic alternatives.
Positano landing and getting around
Ferries dock at the small jetty on Spiaggia Grande, Positano's main beach. The town climbs steeply above; walking up involves many steps, and a shuttle bus runs between the beach area and the higher road. There are no cars once you leave the main road, so plan your luggage accordingly. From the same dock, local ferries connect to Amalfi, Praiano and Salerno during the season.
Operators
Alilauro and Travelmar share the Naples–Positano market, each running their own schedules that together give a reasonable spread of departures through the day in summer. It is worth comparing both timetables — and confirming that the service is running on your travel dates before you arrive at the pier.
