Where it leaves from

Ferries depart from Molo Beverello, the main passenger ferry terminal on Naples' waterfront, within walking distance of the city centre and the Piazza del Plebiscito. It is well served by taxi, bus and metro (line 1, Municipio stop). Aim to arrive 20–25 minutes before your sailing, particularly in peak summer when the terminal is busy.

Seasonal service and route overview

This is a seasonal route, typically running from April to October, and it is one of the longer day-trip ferry connections along the Amalfi Coast. The crossing takes around one hour and fifteen minutes by fast catamaran, leaving the Gulf of Naples and rounding the Sorrentine Peninsula to reach the town of Amalfi at the foot of its gorge. Some sailings call at Positano en route; check the timetable for your specific departure. Outside the season, the best alternatives are the Circumvesuviana train to Sorrento and then a local bus or ferry along the coast road.

Amalfi town and the dock

Ferries arrive at the small central dock in Amalfi, steps from the main Piazza del Duomo. The town is compact and walkable but very busy in summer; arriving by ferry sidesteps the notoriously congested Amalfitana road. From the same dock, local services connect to Positano, Salerno and the smaller coastal settlements, making Amalfi a useful hub if you want to explore the coast by sea.

Operators

Alilauro and Travelmar operate the seasonal Naples–Amalfi service, between them offering a range of departure times through the day. Timetables shift between the shoulder months (April–May and September–October) and the peak months (June–August), so always verify current schedules on the operators' websites or at the Molo Beverello ticket counters before travelling.

Frequently asked questions

How long is the ferry from Naples to Amalfi?
The fast ferry takes approximately one hour and fifteen minutes from Molo Beverello in Naples.
Does the ferry run all year?
No — service is seasonal, running roughly April through October. In winter there is no regular direct ferry; the road via Sorrento and the Amalfitana coast road is the main option.
Does the ferry stop at Positano on the way?
Some services call at Positano en route; others go direct. Check the timetable for your specific sailing.
Can I bring luggage on the Amalfi ferry?
Yes, as carry-on — there is no hold. Wheeled suitcases are awkward on the small docks, so a soft bag or backpack is more practical.
