Naples Ferry Port

Everything you need to know about ferries from Naples — Molo Beverello and Calata Porta di Massa, routes to Capri, Ischia, Procida and Sicily, and how to navigate the Bay of Naples by sea.

The port: Molo Beverello and Calata Porta di Massa

Naples' main ferry activity is concentrated in the waterfront port area east of Piazza del Plebiscito. Molo Beverello is the hub for fast passenger ferries and hydrofoils — used by services to Capri, Ischia (Ischia Porto), Procida and Sorrento. Calata Porta di Massa, immediately alongside, handles car ferries and some larger conventional ferries to the islands and Sicily.

Both terminals are in central Naples, easy to reach on foot from the historic centre, and served by bus and taxi. Allow extra time in peak summer when the area is busy.

Routes from Naples

Naples is the gateway to the Bay of Naples islands — Capri, Ischia and Procida — with frequent fast crossings across a calm, scenic bay. For longer-haul travel, overnight car ferries head south to Palermo on Sicily, a popular option for travellers continuing to explore southern Italy.

Operators

The main operators working out of Naples include Caremar, SNAV, NLG (Navigazione Libera del Golfo), Medmar and Grimaldi Lines for the Sicily routes. Schedules and operators vary by island and season; compare via Direct Ferries.

Planning tips

In July and August the Bay of Naples is at its busiest. Book fast ferries to Capri ahead on summer weekends, and reserve car space on Sicily overnights well in advance. Ferry services can be reduced or cancelled in strong southerly winds (scirocco), so build flexibility into a tight itinerary.
