Where it leaves from
The Sorrento–Capri ferry sails from Sorrento's waterfront port (Marina Piccola), set below the town's clifftop terraces. The crossing is a quick, scenic hop across the mouth of the Bay of Naples, arriving at Marina Grande on Capri's north coast.
A shorter crossing than Naples
Sorrento sits much closer to Capri than Naples does, so if you are already on the Sorrentine Peninsula or the Amalfi Coast, this is the natural route to the island — roughly half the journey time of the Naples crossing. Fast ferries and hydrofoils complete the trip in around 20 to 30 minutes.
No cars on Capri
Capri heavily restricts non-resident vehicles, and there is no car ferry from Sorrento. All travellers cross as foot passengers. From Marina Grande you can take the funicular up to Capri town or the bus to Anacapri.
Booking tips
Services are run by Caremar, SNAV and other Bay of Naples operators. The Sorrento–Capri crossing is popular with day-trippers in summer — book ahead for mid-morning sailings and holiday weekends. Ferries can be reduced in rough weather, so leave some flexibility if the wind is up.
