Where it leaves from

Ferries depart from Salerno's waterfront port, a convenient starting point that is easily reached from Salerno's main railway station on foot or by a short taxi ride. Salerno is itself well connected to Naples by fast train (Freccia or Intercity, around 35–40 minutes) and by motorway, making it a practical entry point for the Amalfi Coast from either direction.

A scenic coastal crossing

The Salerno–Amalfi run is one of the most rewarding short ferry crossings in Italy, hugging the dramatic limestone cliffs of the Amalfi Coast for the entire journey. The crossing takes roughly 35 minutes on a direct sailing, though many services call at intermediate towns — Vietri sul Mare, Cetara, Maiori and Minori — turning the ride into a slow tour of the coast by sea. If time allows, a hop-on hop-off approach along this stretch is highly worthwhile.

Seasonal operation

Like all Amalfi Coast ferry services, this route runs seasonally from around April to October. Peak summer (July–August) sees the most frequent departures through the day; the shoulder months offer fewer options but quieter conditions. Outside the season, the SS163 Amalfitana coast road (served by SITA buses) is the only realistic alternative, though it is famously slow and winding.

Travelmar and the Amalfi Coast network

Travelmar operates the bulk of the ferry services along this stretch of coast, running a network that links Salerno, Amalfi, Positano, and several smaller communities. Buying a through ticket or checking the full timetable at the dock lets you combine legs easily — for example travelling from Salerno to Amalfi one day and continuing on to Positano or Sorrento the next.
