Where it leaves from

The crossing departs from Igoumenitsa, the main ferry port on the northwest Greek mainland in Epirus. Igoumenitsa is also the terminus for many international ferries from Italy (Ancona, Bari, Brindisi), so it is a busy hub where traffic from across Europe converges before heading to Corfu and beyond.

The crossing

The two coasts are only about 12 nautical miles apart, making this one of the shortest crossings in the eastern Mediterranean. Conventional car ferries take roughly 1 hour 45 minutes and are the standard choice for most travellers; high-speed vessels do the same distance in about 1 hour 30 minutes. You arrive at the ferry port in Kerkyra, Corfu's capital town, directly adjacent to the old Venetian quarter.

Operators

A consortium of companies including Kerkyra Lines runs the crossing, keeping departure frequency high — particularly in summer. Multiple departures are available throughout the day, making this a flexible route where you can often adjust plans at short notice if you are travelling as a foot passenger.

Onward connections

Igoumenitsa connects by road to the rest of northern Greece and onwards to North Macedonia and Albania, and by ferry to Italy. From Corfu, you can reach Kefalonia and Zakynthos by continuing south through the Ionian islands, though those require returning to the mainland first to pick up the Levante Ferries services from Killini or Patras.
