The route
The Jadrolinija catamaran connects Zadar — the main city of northern Dalmatia — with Mali Lošinj, the principal town of Lošinj island in the Kvarner Bay. The route is passenger-only and takes around 3 hours, running northward along the Dalmatian coast before entering the sheltered waters between the islands.
Passenger-only crossing
This service carries foot passengers only — bicycles may be accepted depending on availability, but there is no vehicle capacity. Drivers wishing to bring a car to Lošinj island must use the road route: from the mainland via the Krk bridge, then the Valbiska–Merag ferry between Krk and Cres islands, and onwards by road through Cres to Lošinj. That route takes considerably longer but gives you the freedom of a car on the islands.
Mali Lošinj
Mali Lošinj has one of the most attractive waterfronts in the Kvarner region — a horseshoe bay lined with colourful 19th-century villas, cafés and restaurants. The island is known for its mild climate and clean air (it was historically promoted as a health destination), and its pine-covered coast offers excellent swimming and walking. It connects by road to neighbouring Veli Lošinj and, further north, to the larger island of Cres.
Booking and frequency
The Zadar–Mali Lošinj catamaran runs several times a week in summer, with reduced frequency outside the tourist season. It is worth checking the current timetable early and booking ahead for peak summer sailings, as the route is popular with visitors combining northern Dalmatia and the Kvarner islands in a single trip.
