Where it leaves from

The ferry departs from Prizna, a small landing on the Velebit coast of the Croatian mainland. The terminal is compact — essentially a ramp and a waiting area — but it serves as the main car-ferry link onto the northern part of Pag island. On arrival, vehicles dock at Žigljen, a simple port on the island's mainland-facing shore, from where the road leads into Pag Town and across the island.

A short but essential crossing

At 15 to 20 minutes, this is one of the briefest car-ferry crossings in Croatia — but it is also one of the most useful. The island of Pag is connected to the mainland at its southern end by a road bridge, but visitors coming from the north — from Rijeka, the Kvarner coast, or the Lika hinterland — use the Prizna–Žigljen ferry to reach the upper half of the island, including the salt flats, cheese-making villages and the beaches around Novalja.

Operator

Jadrolinija, Croatia's state ferry company, operates this route as a public service. There is no competing operator. Tickets are bought on board or at the terminal kiosk, and reservations are generally not possible on this short-hop service — vehicles queue and board in order of arrival. The ferry runs year-round with a peak-season frequency of roughly every 30 to 60 minutes.

Practical tips

Arrive at the Prizna ramp a few departures before the one you want in peak July and August, when queues of vehicles — particularly campers and cars heading to Novalja — can build up. The wait is usually manageable, but it is better to build in time rather than miss a departure at the start of a long summer day. There is limited shade at the terminal, so bring water if you are travelling with children or pets.
