Where it leaves from

Ferries depart from Athinios, Santorini's main harbour, set into a narrow bay below the volcanic cliffs on the west coast. Buses from Fira meet the major sailings; allow at least 30 minutes from anywhere on the island. In Paros, you arrive at Parikia, the whitewashed capital and ferry hub, where the waterfront is lined with cafés and the town is immediately walkable.

Types of service

Both high-speed and conventional options exist. High-speed catamarans run in approximately 2 hours and are suited to foot passengers wanting a quick crossing. Conventional ferries operated by Blue Star take 3 to 4 hours and carry vehicles — useful if you want to bring a rental car, motorcycle or bicycle to explore Paros. Note that high-speed services are more likely to be cancelled or diverted in strong meltemi winds, which are common from July through August.

Operators

SeaJets runs high-speed catamarans on this route throughout the season. Blue Star Ferries provides the conventional car-ferry service and is generally the most reliable option in rough weather. Compare schedules carefully — some services stop at intermediate islands, adding time to the crossing.

Onward from Paros

Paros is a central Cycladic hub, making it an ideal base for onward travel. From Parikia you can continue to Naxos (30–45 minutes), Mykonos, Ios, Santorini, or back to Piraeus. The island also has a thriving windsurf scene at Naoussa and easy day trips to smaller neighbouring islands.
