The crossing

The ferry between Ibiza Town and La Savina on Formentera is one of the shortest and most frequent ferry crossings in Spain. The two islands are separated by a narrow strait, and the passage takes roughly 30 minutes on a fast passenger vessel. It is one of the best ways to add a second Balearic island to your itinerary without any extra flying.

Passenger-only service

This route carries foot passengers only — no cars. Formentera's small size and mostly flat terrain make it well suited to cycling or scooter hire, both of which are widely available at La Savina port. Baleària and Trasmediterránea operate the crossing, along with a number of smaller local operators, making it one of the most competitive short-hop routes in the Mediterranean. In peak summer the combined timetable means practically continuous connections throughout the day; in quieter months the frequency drops but services continue year-round.

Formentera is compact enough to explore in a day — the turquoise waters of Ses Illetes beach and the lighthouse at Cap de Barbaria are the classic highlights. An early departure from Ibiza Town gives you a full day, and the last ferry back departs well into the evening in summer.
