Zakynthos Ferries
Guide to ferries at Zakynthos (Zante) — the port, the short crossing from Killini, and what to know before arriving on the Ionian's most touristed island.
The port: Zakynthos Town
Zakynthos' ferry port is in the island capital, Zakynthos Town, on the flat eastern coast looking across to the Peloponnese. The terminal is close to the main promenade and the neoclassical town centre, rebuilt after the 1953 earthquake. Car-ferry ramps and a small waiting area sit at the northern end of the waterfront.
The crossing from Killini
The sole regular car-ferry route to Zakynthos runs from Killini, a small port on the western tip of the Peloponnese. The crossing takes approximately one hour and is operated by Levante Ferries, which handles the bulk of Ionian Sea car-ferry traffic from the mainland. Services run year-round, with a much higher frequency in summer to cope with the island's large tourist influx.
Getting around from the port
Zakynthos Town is compact and most of the port-side restaurants, hire-car offices and bus stops are within a short walk of the ferry terminal. For the island's famous beaches on the west and south coasts — including Navagio (Shipwreck Beach) and Laganas — you will need a hire car or organised transfer, as the distances are significant and public transport is limited outside town.
Planning tips
Zakynthos is one of Greece's busiest summer tourist islands. If you are crossing with a car in high season, book car spaces several days ahead — the Killini crossing is popular and finite. Foot passengers have more flexibility but should still arrive at Killini in good time before departure.
