A short hop across the strait

The ferry from Zadar to Preko on Ugljan is one of the quickest island crossings in Croatia — about 25 minutes on the Jadrolinija car ferry. The strait between Zadar and Ugljan is narrow enough that you can see the island clearly from Zadar's waterfront. Sailings run throughout the day, making this an easy, spontaneous trip without the need to book far in advance.

Ugljan island

Ugljan is a long, thin island running parallel to the coast, known for its extensive olive groves (some of the oldest on the Adriatic), modest sandy coves and a relaxed pace compared to better-known Dalmatian islands. The island has several villages connected by a coastal path and a network of cycling and walking trails. The highest point, Sveti Mihovil fortress above Ugljan village, offers panoramic views back to Zadar.

Pašman connection

Ugljan is connected to the neighbouring island of Pašman by a short bridge over the channel at Muline, making it possible to visit both islands on the same trip. Pašman also has its own ferry connection to the mainland (from Tkon to Biograd), which gives adventurous travellers the option of a loop route.

Getting around

The main road runs the length of the island and is well-suited to cycling. Bicycles can be brought on the ferry as an extra — check the current Jadrolinija tariff when booking.
