Where it leaves from
Ferries to Serifos leave from Piraeus, the main port of Athens, about 40 minutes from central Athens by metro (Line 1). The island lies in the western Cyclades — often called the Piraeus Cyclades — and is among the closer group in terms of sailing time.
High-speed vs conventional
- High-speed catamaran (SeaJets) — approximately 2.5 hours, passengers and smaller vehicles, faster but can be weather-sensitive.
- Conventional ferry (Blue Star) — approximately 4.5 hours, carries cars and motorcycles, more stable in choppy conditions.
Both options serve Serifos from Piraeus. If you plan to bring a car or prefer a calmer ride, the conventional service is more reliable in strong meltemi winds.
Serifos: the quiet Cyclades
Serifos is one of the least touristy islands in the Cyclades, despite being under three hours from Athens. The harbour village of Livadi is a laid-back crescent of tavernas and cafés, while Chora — the hilltop capital — is a dazzling white maze of alleyways with views across the Aegean. The island has good beaches (Livadi, Psili Ammos, Ganema) and a noticeably slower pace than Mykonos or Santorini.
Onward connections
Serifos is well positioned for the western Cyclades circuit. From Livadi you can continue south to Sifnos (about 45 minutes–1 hour) and Milos, or north to Kythnos. Both SeaJets and Blue Star continue along this route, so combining two or three islands is straightforward.
